Susanne Larner

Susanne Larner’s artistic journey has been deeply influenced by her upbringing in the picturesque landscapes of Prince Edward County, where she cultivated a profound connection to the natural world. Formally trained in the creative hubs of Toronto (OCA) and Vancouver (Emily Carr), Larner trained in various artistic mediums, including drawing, painting, and puppetry. In her post-art school years, her artistic compass truly aligned when she became involved with community art organizations. Leading public art initiatives aimed at children and youth, Larner discovered the transformative power of art as a catalyst for community building. This experience ignited her passion for community engagement and public participation in the arts, shaping her into the enthusiastic, dynamic professional she is today. As co-founder of the Department of Illumination’s Firelight Lantern Festival, Susanne has been instrumental in creating immersive environments and interactive experiences that celebrate shared stories and collective imagination. In 2022 she co-founded the Twilux Lantern Parade in Oxford Mills, Ontario, lighting up the night in North Grenville. Specializing in public art, light installations, and puppetry, she infuses creativity into everyday spaces, inviting individuals to engage with and contribute to the artistic narrative. Her collaborative spirit, natural talent in visual art and creative event building, has made her a driving force in the realm of community arts, leaving a lasting impact on both the artistic landscape and the communities she touches.
