Nella Casson

Nella Casson is a visual artist who works in textiles, illustration, woodworking and mixed media sculpture. She has been working with The Department of Illumination since its inception in 2013, where she leads the popular program, The Society of Stitchers, a community embroidery club that has been running for 10 years. In recent years she has created numerous immersive installations; interactive works that aim to surprise and delight viewers of all ages. In 2022 she and Krista Dalby were artists-in-residence at Critical Mass in Port Hope, where they created a large-scale immersive cardboard installation in collaboration with the community, called All Aboard Boxtopia. Other installations have been exhibited as part of ALVAR, the DiscARTed art show, The Firelight Lantern Festival, and at ICE BOX, a public art festival in Picton produced by The Department of Illumination. Her ICE BOX installations were immersive works featuring large embroidered pieces and hands-on play areas.
